generally accident prone...

does anyone else have those brief periods of life when their tendencies towards accidents turns into a constant movement from one slightly embarrassing occation to the next...
in the past week i have...
-burned my thumb on my lamp
-triped up the stairs twice
-found a random cut on my thumb (*the one on the other hand then the one that was burnt) which hurts almost all the time...
-written on my face with my pen (accidentally of course)
-fallen down the stairs three times in one day (dear left arm: thank you for not breaking... i used you a lot to catch myself)
-burned my tongue on a hot liquide
-tripped over my laptop cord (thankfully my laptop stayed on the table)
-ran into one of the poles on the bus when it was stopping and the inertia of my kept me going forward
-caught my backpack on a hook while walking and got jerked backwards
-opened the fridge...turned away... turned back and hit my head very hard against it (i have a bruise now..)
addition: stepped on a tack... stuck in foot... now it hurts when i walk

so here is to hoping that my recent string of accidents will last me until may... when i'm sure another string of minor pains and much halarity from laughing at myself will come once again :)

calling for higher door frames... and perhaps the olibolen is catching up with us

there are many things i love about being dutch,
such as wilheminia peppermints and king mints in church... yum! (although i still have no taste for droppes [see this or this]
oh so much dutch goodness and love...
however of all the charactoristics of the dutch and the delicious mints and desserts they offer, one of the most stricking charactoristics of being dutch is only something i realize when seperated from them... when i am walking through a place and standing a good head taller then everyone else. we are tall...

so in good academic fashion i have found two articles about dutch tallness (ok... so i'd need more sources then that for any real work... at least 10 or so to make this really official, but hey what are blogs for... :)

article 1:

The Dutch, already the tallest people on the planet, are still growing. Data collected over the last seven years showed increasing demand for larger clothing sizes in the Netherlands, where the average man is about 185 centimetres (6-foot-1) tall. The Dutch are nearly 10 centimetres taller on average than the British and Americans, and almost 15 centimetres taller than they were four decades ago.

Other studies also rank the Dutch as the tallest people on the planet—and suggest they could grow another 10 entimetres in the next few decades.

Researchers put it down to affluence, a diet rich in dairy products, and good hygiene and health care. But junk food may be limiting the health advantages that wealth has brought. Nearly half of the population is overweight.

article two: titled "it's not only tulips that grow tall in holland" (i thought this was funny)

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - The Dutch, already the tallest people on the planet, are still growing in height while also packing on the pounds.

The market research organization GfK said on Thursday that data collected over the last seven years showed increasing demand for larger clothing sizes in the Netherlands, where the average man is about 6 feet, 1 inch, tall.

“The Dutch are growing,” said GfK spokesman Koen Snoeren

The Dutch are nearly four inches taller on average than the British and Americans, and almost six inches taller than they were four decades ago.

GfK’s analysis supports recent studies, including one by Professor Robert Fogel for the Pan American Health Organization, that ranks the Dutch as the tallest people on the planet.

Fogel and other researchers put it down to affluence, a diet rich in dairy products, and good hygiene and health care.Studies by the Health Council of the Netherlands suggest the Dutch could grow another four inches in the next few decades. But some data, including GfK’s, also suggest junk food is limiting the health advantages that wealth has brought

Nearly half of the population is overweight, and the council says that in a decade it could be two-thirds, around the level of the United States.
